Life's End Institute

Task Forces: Schools

The Representatives

Local teachers, administrators, librarians, secretaries, counselors, parents (including those who home-school), and students.

The Focus

To explore the current status of end-of-life education, resources and experiences in Missoula’s schools and engage schools in helping children understand the dying process, death rituals and grief.

The Result

From the initial needs assessment the following projects were started:

  • Grief @ School Workshops - Provides school personnel with understanding on the developmental stages of grief, the significance of loss history, understanding one's own grief as adults and tools on how to work with children. Components of the workshop are available for all types of groups working with children.
  • The Literature Kit - A tool for teachers and parents that features extended activities on bereavement and coping after the death of a grandparent or other significant loss.
